Advocacy
1) September 22 will be a Day of Advocacy celebrating the day President Kennedy signed the Peace Corps Act officially creating the Peace Corps. See the full list of events here. Also, the NPCA Special 60th Anniversary Conference will be continuing through this Saturday, the 25th, with lots of virtual events to choose from!
2) Have you ever thought about writing a short op-ed for your local newspaper? Do you have a Peace Corps story you’d like to share with your community? If you answered yes to either of these questions, the Advocacy Team is here to help. As part of the 60th Anniversary celebrations, we are working to coordinate RPCVs who are interested in sharing about Peace Corps in local publications. We have templates and resources that make this process easier for RPCVs to get their stories published. Email Beth at eliza.ahl@gmail.com to get started!
3) Lastly, a shoutout to Advocacy Co-Chair Erin Branigan who coordinated our outreach to SEAPAX members from different congressional districts in our area! Look out for emails from the Advocacy Team as we work to urge our congressional representatives to continue supporting Peace Corps legislation and funding.

Support Local Refugees
As Seattle resettles more and more Afhan refugees, we hope the SEAPAX community is ready to step up. The Peace Corps Community for Refugees (PCC4R) has invited SEAPAX to partner with the regional affiliate of the Lutheran Immigrant and Refugee Service, Lutheran Community Services Northwest (LCSNW).
The latest LCSNW request is for toiletries, cleaning supplies, kitchen items, and diapers for 'starter kits.' Reach out to Edie Cooke (ecooke@lcsnw.org) and Mouammar Abouagila (mabouagila@lcsnw.org) if you can help, and view full starter kit information here.
LCSNW is also seeking people with weekday availability to transport clients to appointments and deliver donations, as well as people who can temporarily host refugees in their home. Please visit the LCSNW website or contact Sheridan Moore (smoore@plu.edu or 503-893-8853) or siv@lcsnw.org for current needs and opportunities.
You can also help out other organizations supporting refugees at this time.
