This issue: upcoming events, DEI, advocacy, and more!
|

The sun is finally (mostly) out, and what better way to celebrate than by attending a SEAPAX event?! We had such a blast at Story Slam that we have a handful of opportunities coming up to keep building community. Read on to learn details, as well as to check out our regular programming like the Mentorship Program and DEI and Advocacy work.
Also - now that we are gathering more frequently for in-person events, it’s a great time to get involved with SEAPAX committees, whatever your passion: advocacy, events, grants, service. Contact info@seapax.org!

Story Slam!
Thank you to all who came together for our second Annual Story Slam! We had a wonderful time listening to emotional, comical, and inspiring stories from four RPCVs, and of course sharing community over some great food and drink. We already can't wait until next time!

DEI Committee
With the inundation of Supreme Court rulings, it is important to consider what we can do as RPCVs by mobilizing and creating change. Reproductive rights and justice are the cornerstone of a functional society and democracy, and the recent attack on this fundamental right leaves America in a state of disarray and oppression. The resources below cover both the national and PNW regional side of reproductive justice. The Dobbs ruling not only takes away autonomy away from those in our society who are able to become pregnant, but also sets precedent for future court decisions that would undo years of social progress. Please consider giving these resources a read and assisting where you can.

Advocacy
In June, the Peace Corps Reauthorization Act of 2022 was officially introduced in the Senate, meaning it has now been introduced in both chambers of Congress this year! The bipartisan bill would increase volunteer health care coverage and readjustment allowances, expedite return-to-service opportunities, and expand the agency’s Sexual Assault Advisory Council. We have begun a six-month campaign to pass the act – be on the lookout for more information as we grow and expand our mobilization efforts!
