This issue: Happy Holidays!
|
|
2022, what a year! We've been enjoying looking back on some truly wonderful SEAPAX memories we made in the past twelve months, from community events to advocacy wins and everything in between. This final newsletter before we kick off 2023 will tell you how and why to support SEAPAX (please consider donating if you haven't already!), update you on our next social event, and even give you gift ideas for your holiday shopping. Warm wishes for a joyful, meaningful holiday season, SEAPAX!

Annual Support Campaign
As the holiday season approaches, we again ask our members to consider making a donation to support SEAPAX. Thanks to your generous gifts of time, in-kind contributions, and ticket purchases in 2022, we were able to get together in person more often, and we look forward to continuing that trend in 2023. We have learned to manage on a very lean budget since adopting a “dues-free” model, but hosting a website and publishing a newsletter entail real cash outlays. If everyone receiving this newsletter contributed just $3 a year, we would easily cover our basic expenses. Remember, SEAPAX is now a registered 501(c)(3), which means your donations are fully tax deductible.
If you have not contributed to SEAPAX this year, please consider doing so now. We suggest a $15 annual contribution, but any level of support is appreciated.

By highlighting the rich diversity of the world, the International Calendar is the cornerstone of the “Third Goal” efforts of the Peace Corps to help Americans understand the peoples and cultures of other countries, and is a wonderful way to learn about the world.

DEI Committee
With the holiday season coming up and gifts to purchase for our friends and family, it is important to support both the Indigenous peoples of Seattle as well as a variety of other BIPOC small businesses. The Duwamish Tribe has a selection of books, apparel, and artwork that makes for incredible holiday gifts, available on their website. And, writer Zibby Trewartha-Weiner has listed 23 BIPOC-owned small businesses that sell sustainable gifts. Happy Holidays and happy shopping!

Advocacy
Support continues to grow as we approach year’s end for passing the Peace Corps Reauthorization Act! Watch this short YouTube video to learn more about the act and why now is the time to pass it in the Senate! Also, on November 30 the Senate Foreign Relations Committee held confirmation hearings that included Carol Spahn for Peace Corps Director! We expect a committee vote and then a full Senate vote in December. You can view a recording of the hearing here.
